Manga Library

The Manga Library started out as a humble room at AnimeNEXT 2002. The organizers of the event realized what a great idea it was, and decided to share it with the rest of the anime convention world by making it available to others. To date, we've brought our manga event to several anime conventions on the east coast, and we're always looking to bring it to more places to expose manga to a wider array of fans.

Suggested Set-up

Bookshelves should be placed along a wall with 2 6-foot tables in front for the librarians. Cocktail round tables (seating 4 per table) should be placed throughout the room with comfortable chairs. Sofas make reading more comfortable but are not necessary. The room itself can range in size depending on the attendance of the convention. We have run at conventions where there are over 100 people in the room at any time. A general guideline is 15 sq.ft. per person expected in the room.

Contact us

If you are an anime convention organizer, and would like to have our manga library at your event, please contact us using the form below.

If our staff is available, we can run the room for you in exchange for a comp pass, room, board, and travel expenses. We require a minimum of 4 staffers to run the room throughout your event.

We can also arrange to ship the materials to you, and you'll be responsible for running the room yourself. A sample procedure sheet will be included if you want to use our rules. Your organization will agree to cover the shipping costs to and from the event, and to pay for any damaged materials. An inventory sheet will be included in the package we send to you, and we can do partial shipments of the library as well to keep costs down.

For Publishers

The Manga Library was originated at AnimeNEXT and we offer the library to other conventions around the US, including Otakon and New York Comic Con. Anime Expo's Manga Library was also modeled after ours. Contributions to our library will have more of an impact because it will be used at other events. And because Universal Animation, Inc is a 501(c)3 educational non-profit organization, your donation may be tax deductible.

Our goal is to stimulate sales through exposing fans to a wide array of titles. To this end, we usually ask that you only send us multiple copies of the first 1 or 2 volumes of a series. Our hope is that attendees will be hooked on series and continue to purchase the rest, resulting in increased sales for titles that are donated. We ask that publishers keep in mind the increased value of their donation and to allocate volumes accordingly.
